WOODEN FACADES

WOODEN FACADES

Design and build a wooden facade is not as easy as you might think. It is necessary to choose wood species with durability suitable for the Class of Use 3 according to standar UNE EN 335:2013, develop a constructive detail that facilitates the evacuation of rainwater and allows movements due to changes in hygroscopic moisture of the wood, choose a finishing that facilitates the maintenance in the future, and of course the correct installation of the facade.

Grupo GUBIA has been studying facades solutions and claddings for more than a decade, developing and testing several systems to ensure that your wooden facade is a complete success. (+)

We currently have two patented mobile facade systems: GUBI vFolding Facade System and GUBIA Sliding Facade System.

What guarantees the durability of wooden facades?

Wooden façade systems are designed according to the type of use and the level of exposure to water and the elements. For this reason, species with adequate durability and wood modified by physical or chemical treatments are selected. In addition, these treatments improve the dimensional stability and performance of the material in outdoor conditions. Thus, the solutions allow the use of slats, fixed panels, or folding systems in vertical or horizontal arrangements. In this way, the facade is integrated as a solar control element and environmental filter for the building.

The performance of a wooden façade depends on the design of the construction details and their correct execution on site. Consequently, the systems facilitate water drainage and subsequent ventilation of the cladding. They also ensure the expansion and contraction of the components to prevent moisture and long-term damage. On the other hand, fastenings, often concealed, are developed to allow for the assembly and replacement of specific elements. Finally, the finish, installation, and an adequate maintenance plan guarantee the durability of the façade over time.
