One of the buildings of the multifunctional Campus MADNUM complex, next to Avenida Méndez Álvaro, incorporates oak wood as the protagonist in its noble areas. The entrance hall, at double height, becomes a meeting and gathering place for the users of this building intended for rental housing. It has been designed with various elements of American red oak woodwork that make it unique. This wood species, present throughout the space, bathes the place with its honey tone and intrinsic warmth.
The key element is the staircase that connects both floors. It has been conceived as a replica of Lamela’s own design in one of his famous works and its development has been improved by our technical department. The incorporation of a complex metallic core that the wood covers on all sides allows each step to be understood as a massive wooden element. Each element is anchored to the central steel stringer by means of metrics. The staircase is accompanied by oak pieces that also cover the upper and lower parts of the handrails.
Bespoke furniture, also in oak wood, completes the furnishing of the foyer. Dynamic shelves with alternating compartments, long work tables of almost 20 meters, tables with built-in lecterns, and even the reception desk combine wood with steel. The tone of the wood and the black finish of the metal structures create an attractive contrast of materials.
All the oak used comes from sustainable forests. In this way, the commitment to the material is in line with the strategic focus of the MADNUM Campus project: sustainability (+)
