The Mandarin Oriental Residential Complex in Madrid is a highly precise project in which laminated bamboo plays a central role in its design. Grupo GUBIA has developed the design, manufacturing, and installation of façade systems, brise-soleils, and outdoor ceilings, integrating construction solutions to ensure optimal technical performance. The project includes interior and exterior vertical cladding for solar control, as well as slatted ceilings on terraces, creating a unified aesthetic based on the modular repetition and warmth of this material.
The façade’s brise-soleils consist of vertically arranged laminated bamboo profiles. These sunshades are complemented by large-format slatted canopies, with individual slats reaching lengths of up to 7.5 meters. Secured using adjustable hidden anchors, they ensure precise installation and durability in outdoor environments. The prefabrication of the modules has allowed for optimized on-site construction times, while ensuring a high degree of control and quality.
The project stands out for its meticulous attention to construction details, where protective treatments, end sealing, and the integration of invisible fastening systems reinforce the material’s durability under demanding outdoor conditions. The use of laminated bamboo introduces a sensory dimension that brings warmth and texture to the project. Aligning with sustainability criteria, it contributes to obtaining environmental certifications such as LEED. The project transcends the purely structural to establish itself as a comprehensive architectural solution that embodies innovation and environmental responsibility. (+)
