We introduce our laminated bamboo for exterior use in CARAT Sky Villas

We have started the fabrication in the workshop of a new project on the Costa del Sol. We talk about the exclusive residential complex CARAT, located in Fuengirola. The access to these exclusive apartments and penthouses have in its design a lattice and a three-dimensional wooden ceiling, which the technical department of Grupo GUBIA has collaborated providing all the constructive solutions. The exposure to the marine environment of the property, only 200m from the sea, as well as the geometry of the design have conditioned the choice of the species, laminated bamboo for exterior use.

Carat is an experience of luxury, technology, leisure, calm and well-being and of course, sustainability. That is why bamboo, a fast-growing species and certified by the FSC standard, has been key in the design.

Properties and configurations with exterior laminated bamboo

Laminated bamboo, treated with ecological fungicides before and after gluing between pieces, has exceptional properties for exterior use. With a 1-2 durability, it is completely suitable for use class 3.1 to which it is subjected here, facades. Its slatted composition also makes it a very stable material in the face of variations in relative humidity, such as those found in coastal areas, allowing it to be used in thin and very slender pieces without the risk of movement.

The design proposal in this unique entrance hall is based on a triangular pattern that is repeated throughout the project. Several modules, based on the triangle as the main geometric shape, rotate around each other to give shape to aesthetically attractive geometric structures.

The frame of each module is constructed with 90x40mm bamboo profiles that are assembled with a glued carpenter’s joint. Smaller slats of the same material of 40x40mm are arranged with the same spacing between them, turning again to create greater diversification of the module.

The design has required three-dimensional digital surveys and complex production drawings by the technical department. The result will be an interesting image that we can already glimpse in the workshop with its pre-assembly.

Our team of carpenters are currently working under high standards of quality and sustainability. These structures will be assembled as a meccano facilitating a quick installation on site.
