The Workshop Competition CAMPO MADERA is a joint initiative aimed at promoting wood construction and encouraging research and design in this field. The main objective is to bring young people closer to the world of wood construction, highlighting its possibilities, design and applied technologies. All this in a context of environmental sustainability.
Participants will focus on the design of a shelter and the creation of a model or prototype using manufactured or processed wood construction systems. This will involve working with wood materials provided, maximising their use by at least 70%. The design process and the application of technology and construction will be evaluated, including the use of computer systems and the optimisation of material resources. The location is free, with plan dimensions not exceeding 5×5 metres in real scale and prototypes up to 50×50 cm in plan.
Workshop programme
The competition takes place in several stages:
23 October: Opening of the call for applications.
12 December: Announcement of the selection. 20 teams composed of at least 2 engineering and/or architecture students (the 3rd student can be from any discipline). A technical training and orientation talk on the competition will be given, with the participation of Grupo GUBIA, Cano y Escario Arquitectura, SENER, CODA Architects and EGOIN, at SENER’s offices in Madrid, after which technical training and orientation will be provided to the teams, together with the necessary materials.
22 January: Workshop for the assembly of the prototypes, in the MATCOAM room of the Madrid College of Architects, with the presentation of each team with a DIN A2 plan, mounted on 5 mm feather board, in addition to explanatory or justification plans.
Juries Workshop-Competition CAMPO MADERA
The jury will be made up of representatives of the promoting companies, MATCOAM, an architect and a guest engineer. The three winning teams will present their projects and receive prizes during the exhibition “Cano y Escario 35 years” on 5 February 2024, with 3 prizes of 1,500 € each and 2 accrediting Diplomas.
