The exclusive residential complex CARAT Sky Villas, located in Fuengirola, Malaga, is distinguished by its avant-garde design and its commitment to sustainability. Grupo GUBIA has had the privilege of participating in this project, providing innovative solutions in the main access through the installation of lattices and a three-dimensional ceiling of exterior laminated bamboo with FSC certification (Forest Stewardship Council).

Geometric design and construction efficiency with laminated bamboo
The design of the entrance is based on a repeating triangular pattern that extends both in the vertical louvers and in the inclined ceiling. This configuration creates a dynamic envelope that dialogues with the nearby maritime environment. To materialize this complex geometry, Grupo GUBIA’s technical team employed 3D modeling and parametric design tools, allowing for precise fabrication and efficient standardization of parts. Each module, consisting of a structural frame of 90×40 mm bamboo profiles and 40×40 mm interior slats arranged with progressive turns, was pre-assembled in the workshop. This approach facilitated fast and efficient on-site installation, which was completed in just two days.

Exterior properties of laminated bamboo
The choice of laminated bamboo responds to both aesthetic and functional criteria. This material, treated with ecological fungicides before and after gluing, has a durability class 1-2 according to the UNE EN 350-2 standard. This makes it suitable for use in facades (use class 3.1). Its finger-jointed structure gives it remarkable dimensional stability against variations in humidity, characteristic of coastal environments such as Fuengirola, located just 200 meters from the sea. In addition, its high mechanical strength, comparable to that of many traditional hardwoods, and its versatility make it ideal for applications ranging from structural latticework to flooring, cladding and custom-made furniture.

Commitment to sustainability and innovation
The intervention in CARAT Sky Villas reflects Grupo GUBIA’s commitment to sustainable architecture and innovation in the use of materials. Bamboo, a fast-growing and FSC-certified species, is presented as a responsible alternative to tropical woods, contributing to the reduction of environmental impact in construction. This project joins other company initiatives that seek to integrate design, functionality and respect for the environment in cutting-edge architectural solutions.
