The Infinito Delicias building, designed by Husos-Arquitecturas and elii, continues to receive recognition for its innovation and contribution to new approaches to architectural rehabilitation. Its most recent distinctions include the 2026 Casa de la Arquitectura Award in the ES_INNOVACIÓN category, the ALDES Award for the best project in sustainability, decarbonisation or on-site energy generation in a building (Rebuild 2026), its finalist status in the 2026 FAD Awards (Architecture category), and its selection for the 2026 CSCAE Awards. These honours build on the Holcim Awards 2023 Golden Prize for Europe and first prize in the invited competition organised by the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation in 2018, which marked the beginning of this initiative.
Located in Madrid’s Delicias neighbourhood, the project transforms a former industrial warehouse of approximately 2,750 m² into an ecosocial hub for cultural, food-related and community activities. Beyond rehabilitating an existing building, the intervention proposes a new relationship between architecture, sustainability and civic participation.
Infinito Delicias stands out for its commitment to adaptive reuse. It retains much of the existing structure and significantly reduces the resource consumption associated with new construction. The introduction of community spaces, green areas and sustainability strategies transforms the former industrial warehouse into a shared facility that brings together environmental and social objectives within a single intervention.
Timber as a material for contemporary rehabilitation.
Among the materials used in the intervention, timber plays a significant role in the construction of new spaces and architectural elements. Its light weight, suitability for prefabrication and low environmental impact make it a particularly appropriate solution for the rehabilitation and reuse of existing buildings.
Unlike new-build projects, interventions in existing buildings require constant adaptation to structural, geometric and functional constraints. In this context, timber construction systems offer considerable versatility, allowing new solutions to be integrated without compromising the building’s heritage value or original characteristics.

This work focused on analysing and defining solutions tailored to the project’s specific needs, particularly the façade, helping to integrate timber construction systems into an intervention of considerable technical and programmatic complexity.
