The Palma de Mallorca – Son Sant Joan Airport has become the setting for a unique project, where FSC-certified bamboo plays a leading role in the remodeling of its spaces. Grupo GUBIA has collaborated in the design and execution of a curved bamboo slat ceiling for one of the VIP lounges on the premises. This is a highly complex technical project that, in addition to the slatted ceiling, incorporates multiple applications of bamboo: flooring, wall covering, and acoustic ceilings.
The curved acoustic ceiling is composed of flexible slat modules fixed to a curved metal structure with precise radii. This solution not only meets aesthetic and acoustic criteria, but also optimizes installation, allowing for speed and precision on site. Tests in accordance with standard EN 13501-1:2018 guarantee its safety, awarding it a Bs1d0 fire rating.
One of the most emblematic elements are the bamboo capitals, designed as conical crowns for the main pillars. Their sculptural design, with ascending rings reminiscent of stalactites, adds monumentality and reinforces the organic concept of the space. More than decoration, these capitals stand as architectural pieces that integrate structure, technique, and interior design.
