After months of intense work we celebrate the completion of a challenging and exciting project<\/strong><\/a>. Among others, the design and execution of the curved paneling of slats of FSC bamboo<\/strong> <\/a>at the Airport of Palma de Mallorca, in one of the VIP lounges of the enclosure. It’s a complex paneling with concave and convex parts that meets demanding technical requirements.<\/p>\n

More than a year ago, AENA<\/strong> <\/a>launched the remodeling of the Balearic airport Son Sant Joan, in order to adapt it to the growing needs of the island and to turn it into a benchmark of sustainability<\/strong> <\/a>and contemporary design. Here, FSC-certified<\/strong><\/a> bamboo has left its mark with Grupo GUBIA.<\/p>\n

Bamboo<\/strong> <\/a>has been the main protagonist of this intervention, present in a wide range of construction solutions: flooring<\/strong><\/a>, vertical paneling<\/strong> <\/a>and an impressive undulating acoustic ceiling<\/strong><\/a> made of slats. The shape of the ceiling<\/strong> <\/a>not only responds to aesthetic and acoustic<\/strong> <\/a>criteria, but also represents a technical challenge of enormous complexity. Its conception is based on a metal structure curved with great precision according to the project radii, on which the flexible slat modules are mechanically fastened. These modules have been designed to be able to adapt to the final shape and at the same time guarantee a precise and fast execution.<\/p>\n

Strict fire tests according to EN 13501-1 2018 certify the Bs1d0 classification of the assembly.<\/p>\n

Bamboo chapitels at he VIP Lounge of the airport. FSC certified interior design<\/span><\/h2>\n

One of the most unique components of the project has been the design of ten bamboo<\/strong> <\/a>chapitels that are trimmed against the undulating ceiling. These elements are conceived as the crowning of the pillars that form part of the main structure. Their conical geometry grows upwards towards the ceiling, with large rings that give the pillar greater hierarchy within the space, becoming at the same time stalactites that seem to hang from the ceiling. The chapitels, more than a decorative element, become monumental and sculptural pieces that dialogue with the organic concept of the interior design. At the same time, they combine in tone with the warmth provided by this versatile and sustainable<\/strong> <\/a>material.<\/p>\n

The completion of this project is a milestone for our team, which has worked with an exemplary level of detail and dedication. From the parametric design<\/strong> <\/a>of the ceiling to the last detail of carpentry have been executed with the utmost precision.<\/p>\n

Today, more than ever, we are happy and deeply proud of the work we have done. The panelling using slats of FSC bamboo at the airport, at this VIP Lounge, not only redefines the passenger experience, but also reflects our commitment<\/strong><\/a> to excellence, sustainability and the beauty of the material, in its most innovative version.<\/p>\n
